3 Makeup Trends for Fall and Winter

The fall and winter beauty makeup trends have gotten a little hotter and bolder which is ironic since the weather has gotten colder! There are three trends in makeup that are worth trying for the season and, with some tweaking, they can look just as good on a woman over 50 as they can on a 20 year old.

The first trend is “Tribal Beauty” which was seen on runways from Paris to New York. There was Thomas Tait’s bold Blue from the brow to under the eye or just the simple markings of black and red liner at Marc Jacobs. This trend has taken over the runway for the last two seasons and looks like there are no signs of it slowing down. Although it is a pretty tough trend to translate to women over fifty, I have some suggestions so you wont miss out on one high fashion moment. My first suggestion is to just simply add a pop of color to the eye using a colored eyeliner with your normal black eyeliner look. It could be just a line on top of your eyeliner on the outer corner of the eye. Another way to join the tribe is to do your usual eye look and add a brighter color just on the ball of the eye.

Our second trend is the “Twiggy Look.” I’m sure many women in their 50s remember when this look first came out in the 1960s. This trend was seen on many designer runways this season including Rochas, Custo Barcelona, Marco de Vincenzo, Prada, Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Maxime Simoens. The large pinched lash with a lower lash is finally back. The best way to do this is to try a more refined version.   First use several coats of mascara on your lashes and then give them a little pinch so they will clump together just on the tips. Also if you are feeling very “Twiggy” you can even add a little tiny false lash strip or singles on the lower lash line as well.

The third trend is the “Natural Moonlit Skin”. This look could be found on the runway of numerous designers Such as Victor dE Souza, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Jason Wu, Vera Wang, Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, Diane Von Furstenberg, Giambattista Valli, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, and Lacoste to name a few. I used the look myself this season creating a stranded albino in Hawaii for Victor dE Souza’s runway show and a Tribal tanned heiress for Hanley Mellon’s show. The buzzword for this look is glow, glow and glow. Anyone who knows me knows that this not a problem for me. I love this look and feel it translates well to women over 50. You can easily incorporate this into your routine in just two easy steps.

#1 use a glowing primer or face cream

#2 use a moisture mist after all of your makeup is done to lock, set and add moisture to skin.

It’s very easy to be on trend with this look!

Please let me know your thoughts on these trends or any others. Also if you have any questions or feedback, I would love to hear it. Just write to info@fiftyisthenewfifty.com. Until next time I hope you have fun vamping up your fall and winter looks and I will see you on the catwalk!
