Having the opportunity to spend time with Maye Musk backstage at the Victor dE Souza S/S 2016 Ready to Wear show truly showed me how a beautiful mature woman should look.  If you haven’t heard of Maye, she is currently one of the top working models and style Icons for the modern mature woman. My team and I had the opportunity to get her ready for the show and she told us that she wanted a smokey cat eye for the show. What I realized right then is that staying modern and being able to adapt your makeup and look for the particular occasion is the key to looking fresh at any age. Then I thought, “what is a smokey cat eye?” Maye was more than happy to fill us in. Her secret to looking rock chic is this look. She is boldly willing to break the beauty myths of what is appropriate in beauty and fashion for a woman of her age, and doing it quite well if I might add.

Now, I will break down Maye’s smokey cat eye. I bet you thought I wasn’t going to share! First a flesh toned eye base is applied from the brow to lash line.  Next a simple luminous beige shadow is placed from the crease to the lash line. After this your eye is all set for the cat eye which we went over in the article “Fall Make-UpTrends: How to Create the Cat Eye (http://www.fiftyisthenewfifty.com/fall-make-up/). Next, using a small smudge brush, blend out the hard edges of the liner with a flat black shadow and there you have it, a modern age appropriate take on the cat eye. For more drama use a black liner on the inner rim of the eye and smudge a little of the black shadow in the lower lash line and of course be generous with the mascara!

Until next time keep your cat eyes smokey!

XOXO, Dustin Lujan
