5 Minute Face

November 2, 2009

Are you rushed in the morning as you try to get out the door looking good?   Are you ready for a pulled together look that takes just 5 minutes?  If so, check this out.  The clock starts after you’ve washed your face and applied your moisturizer and sunscreen and yes, I mean sunscreen everyday no matter what.  Good skin care is all about cleansing, moisturizing and protection, but that’s a topic for another segment.  Here’s the  scoop on the 5 minute face for a great casual everyday look.

•   1 minute

Conceal any dark areas under the eye by using a concealer in a half moon shape.  Start around the tear duck on the inner most corner of the eye extending past the pupil.  Most of  us 50 plus year olds need concealer around the nose and across the chin to hide discoloration in these areas!  I keep thinking why not just apply concealer on my entire face-  just kidding!

•   1 ½ minutes

Use a powder foundation for a fresh clean look.  You want your foundation to look second skin not a mask!   Load a large full brush with the mineral powder foundation using the top of the container as the loading station!  Tap the brush to lose any excess powder, and apply using erratic movements with the brush all over your face.  By moving swiftly all over your face, your complexion is flawless and even and I do mean flawless – it’s my dream and it can be as big as I want!  More applications with less powder gives you the natural look you’re going for.

•   30 seconds

Use a bronzer for a minimalist approach to your make up. Add bronzer to your face using a large fluff brush with a natural tone and not too much shimmer.  Apply the bronzer using erratic movements to get that sun-kissed look.  Remember the sun “kisses” our face evenly not just on our cheeks!

•   30 seconds

Use an eye shadow that matches your skin tone and with a large shadow brush apply the shadow over the entire eyelid.   Next , use a smaller shadow brush and apply the same shadow under the eye.  This is a subtle light application of shadow under the eye so keep the shadow as close to the lashes as possible.  This shadow is used to neutralize any discolorations that the concealer didn’t hide completely.

•   30 seconds

Swipe your upper lashes only with black mascara.  Use two coats on the outer lashes for added depth – no mascara on the bottom lashes!

•   10 seconds

Apply a sheer lip gloss  to complete the look.

Now you’re looking great, feeling great and you have time to grab that extra coffee – I can’t do with less than 2 cups to get my day started!
