I’m writing this blog watching the Real Housewives of New York with my window open and a glorious breeze coming in. What a nice day….especially considering that the beginning of the week was so incredibly hot and humid. I hate that type of weather because I sweat like a pig in it! Today, however, was perfect! This week has been pretty uneventful. On the job front, I got a call from a recruiter about a job in Jersey City. It isn’t ideal as far as the commute goes, but the job might be good. If this had been back in January I would have said I’m not going to work outside of Manhattan but I”m being less picky now. For the second week in a row, I’m feeling anxious about finding a job. July is a slow month and people are on vacation so I understand why I have not been getting that much action; however, it is concerning to me. I go back and forth between having small panic attacks to telling myself to be zen and enjoy the first summer I’ve had off since high school. Hopefully the latter will triumph in my mind so I can relax a little. I went to my outplacement center to a class called ‘Creating Your Intro’ where they discussed what you should say for your ’30 second commercial.’ I didn’t know I was supposed to have one of these so this class was a learning experience. It wasn’t too bad actually but I just don’t exactly know when I will be broadcasting this.
On the social front, I went to an art show that my friend had at a gallery in Chelsea. She does artwork in wax and it is pretty cool. I had seen her art in pictures on facebook but it is much better seeing it in person. After the show I went with a group of her friends to a restaurant called Alta in the village. The place was extremely loud but the food was good. It is a small plate place and the group ordered everything on the menu. I was pretty stuffed by the end. Over the weekend I went to Dos Cominos for some guacamole which I love. I also discovered (yet again) that tequila really doesn’t agree with me…even just two drinks. I try to remember this but occasionally I forget, drink it, and then regret it the next day. I also went to a neighborhood joint with my brothers called Lasagnas. This place is not over the top expensive and has really good Italian food. When my mother used to come and visit, we went there all the time and had a waiter who was really nice to us. Ask for Nori if you ever go there.
In the news, this week there was a lot about Congress’ failure to reach a deal on the debt ceiling. This is so ridiculous. What these people don’t get is that they work for us, not their party. They get paid BY US to compromise for our well being. It is sickening that these bozos don’t get this. They are going to draw this out until the last minute because they only care about making the other party look bad and want as many sound bites in the news as possible to do it. Sherwood Schwartz died this week. He was the creator of Gilligans Island and The Brady Bunch. Am I the only person out there who thinks that these were the most ridiculous shows ever produced? Remember, I saw them the first time around. Although I have used the Marsha Brady phrase ‘something suddenly came up’ as an excuse to get out of doing things, I can’t think of any reason why these shows have endured for so long. It is also very sad that some of the 70s fashions they wore on the shows are back in style. The clothes from that time (and again I wore them the first time around) were some of the ugliest ever made and it boggles my mind that kids are wearing them again! i do like the platforms though. When you are 4’11, height helps!
Have a good week.
