I’ve had to put two weeks into this blog because I just didn’t get a chance to write anything last week. Since I went back to work, it seems that time just flys by and I don’t get a chance to do everything I want to. Funny how having a job seems to interfere with your life!! Anyway, I apologize for my late posting. I can’t believe that it is almost Thanksgiving. This year has gone so fast! It seems like it was just last December when I got laid off and started this blog, but a lot has happened. Work this week was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m doing everything they want me to. I don’t really get any feedback at all, so it is a little like working in a vacuum. I guess if I wasn’t doing what they wanted, someone would say something but who knows. I’ll just keep plugging along.
I did a few interesting things outside of work in the last couple of weeks. I saw a great movie called 50/50. It is about a young guy who gets cancer but it is not a downer. It is funny, touching and just really shows human reactions to things. I really liked it. I saw two Broadway shows. The first was Godspell, a revival of a show that was on Broadway in the 80s I think. It was much better than I thought it would be and even though it was an old show, they really had a lot of timely references in it. The cast was young and talented and the music was really good. In addition, Chris March from the Bravo show Mad Fashion was sitting at the end of my row. I love him….he was my favorite during the season he was on Project Runway…so that was kind of a kick. The other show I saw was Hugh Jackman on Broadway. OMG, that man is so hot!! Not only is he the best looking guy around, he is so talented in many ways. He a good actor and can sing and dance really well. Plus he is really personable and banters back and forth with people from the audience in a really funny way. The show is great! Go see it if you can get tickets. I went out with a friend to Balthazar in Soho. I really like this place. It has been around forever but still attracts a crowd, even on a Monday night which is when we were there. I went to happy hour at The Ritz, a gay bar in the theater district. The drinks were cheap and if you are an older gay man, it is a good place to go to meet people more your age. I went on a date to Aquagrill in Soho. I wouldn’t normally write about a date but this was too rich not to comment on. Out of the 3 hours we were there, he spent at least 60 minutes of that time talking about how his wife said she never loved him, only married him to have children and never had sex with him (this was mentioned over and over again). Can you say ‘too much information?’ At one point during the date he said ‘so, what do you think?’ I said, ‘think of what?’ “Me!,” he said. Instead of saying, I think you are not over your marriage and need to hire a prostitute to come over, relieve your frustration and then start dating again, I simply said, “you seem very nice.” Needless to say, I don’t think we will be seeing each other again!
A few things in the news caught my eye. Of course, you just couldn’t miss that Kim Kardashian is getting divorced. Apparently ‘forever’ is now just 72 days. Four women have accused Herman Cain of sexually harassing them. Being in HR, I do know that some claims of harassment are not true or exaggerated. The fact that a company settles with someone is not necessarily an admission that a person did what is claimed, but more that it is cheaper to pay someone to go away than to fight a case in court. However, when four people accuse you of something, the common denominator is generally you. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think the scarier thing about Herman Cain is that he thinks the Koch brothers are his ‘brothers from another mother.’ Andy Rooney died which was sad although he did live a pretty good life! Justin Beiber is going to take a paternity test because some 20 year old has accused him of fathering her child when they had sex after one of his concerts. All I can say is Ewww. He looks like he is 10! Now if this was Hugh Jackman, I could see it!
Until next week.
