Hello and Happy New Year! The holidays are over for another year.  Did you enjoy them as much as I did? I hope the new year brings good things to all our readers.

January is a time of renewal for many people so we are going to feature some articles about that topic.  One of them is about renewing old friendships which, after the recent presidential election, is probably a relevant topic.  We are also exploring how meditation can help you follow through on your resolutions.  Only 7 minutes a day!  Even I think I could do that.  Speaking of resolutions, I usually don’t make any (too much pressure:) but for those who do, we are featuring an article this week about how you can stick to them.

I planned to publish an article last month about the benefits of learning the Tango, but other things came up so we will feature that in the magazine this month.  I have a friend who used to go out tangoing a lot and I went with her one night.  It was so interesting.  There is a whole tango subculture in NYC!  What I really noticed was how many older women (some in their 70s and 80s) were still dancing.  Many of them had very young partners who wanted to dance with them because they were so good.  This is exercise you can do as you age and have fun also.

Since the inauguration is coming up, we thought it might be helpful to do an article on the power of peaceful protest.  I don’t know about you but I feel that there is going to be a lot of protest going on during the next 4 years.  Peaceful protest has brought about a lot of good changes in our history and the people who participate are patriots, as Tami Rogers will point out in her article.

Our writer Kathleen Heins went on a journey to see the northern lights, traveling to the upper reaches of Norway to do this.  In an essay for our magazine she will describe the journey and weave in some information about the northern lights and why seeing them is on so many peoples’ bucket list.

Have you heard that Marlo Thomas is starting a clothing line? It launches on January 19.  I loved Marlo Thomas in ‘That Girl’ (remember that show?) and she has done so much charitable work with St Jude’s Hospital that you cannot help but admire her.  We will feature some info about her new line which will feature clothes for women of all ages, not just the 20 somethings most clothing seems to be geared toward these days.

All this is in addition to our articles about health, pop culture and posts from our regular columnists Lorraine Duffy Merkl, Jill Matlow and our over 50 dating coach, Lisa Copeland.

Until next month!
