Note From The Publisher
Well the first month of the year is already over. It went fast, didn’t it? The good thing is that one more month of winter is over. I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who love winter and snow; however, I’m not one of them. I grew up in a town where there was 6 fit of snow in the winter and temperatures sometimes got as low as 20 below zero. When I was a courier for Fedex, my territory was in the Adirondacks where it seemed to snow every day of the winter. Suffice it to say that I’ve had enough of cold and snow, so the winter can go by as fast as it wants.
We have some interesting articles coming in our online magazine in February. Since the month includes Valentines Day, we will feature a couple of articles about romance and dating. February is also American Heart month so we are going to have an article about which heart tests are right for you. Our writer Steve Nubie has had open heart surgery so he can offer some very good pointers about these tests.
Are you a worrier? I actually am. I think I probably got it from my mother who was a champion worrier. I wish I was one of those people who ‘go with the flow’ and are laid back about everything but I don’t seem to be able to be that way. The things people worry about do seem to change as you get older. Have you noticed this? Our writer Jill Matlow will be writing one of her light hearted articles about this topic in February.
A lot of people I know have had issues with their thyroid. Some are on medication and others have had to have their thyroids removed for various reasons. Thyroid problems seem to occur more frequently in people over 50. There is a lot of information out there about how soy may affect your thyroid function so we have an article this month that will examine this more closely.
I’m sure you are aware by reading some of my postings that I tend to be a little more on the liberal side as far as my views go. I was a Clinton supporter so the election result was not something I celebrated. However, let it not be said that our magazine doesn’t publish other views. I think one of the problems we have these days is that no one wants to listen to anyone with a different viewpoint from theirs. This is what keeps the country divided. Anyway, this month we will be featuring a couple of posts from one of our writers who is much more conservative than I am. I don’t agree with most of her views but we are able to ‘agree to disagree’ which, if you read Facebook lately, most people don’t know how to do. We will welcome any comments.
All these topics are in addition to articles from our columnist Lorraine Duffy Merkl, and our over 50 dating coach Lisa Copeland. I might also throw in a ‘bugging me’ post this month. Things are starting to pile up.
Until next month!
