Well this is my first ‘Bugging Me’ for 2016. It’s hard to believe I could wait so long considering everything that has been going on.

I started off the New Year by receiving my monthly InStyle magazine. I just love this magazine with all the pictures of fashion, shoes and jewelry it has in it. (Yes I am superficial) January was the ‘love your body’ issue. On the cover under that heading was Jennifer Lopez in a midriff top. Can I just say that if I looked like Jennifer Lopez, I would be madly in love with my body. Me in a midriff top, however, I’m not so in love with. Have you seen Jennifer’s new TV show ‘Shades of Blue’ where she plays a NYC cop? I’ve lived in NYC for almost 20 years and I have yet to see a female cop that looks like JLo.

Well how about the presidential election? Is this crazy time or what? I talk to my friends and we just can’t believe the stuff that is going on! With all the real problems that we have in this country that need to be discussed and solved, we get Marco Rubio talking about Donald Trump wetting his pants and Trump alluding to the size of his manhood! Please let me get the vision of his manhood out of my head. If you think about it though, should we be that surprised that a blowhard like Trump is leading? We live in a country where reality TV shows have taken over the airwaves featuring people that seem to have very few brain cells. The louder and more obnoxious the person is, the more they are featured on TV, in magazines and on social media. People say the rudest and crudest things just to get buzz and then apologize for what they said a couple of days later so they get more publicity. Intelligence and in-depth knowledge of issues is no longer admired but looked down on. Having class, poise and modesty has gone by the wayside while kids watch videos with half naked women being called bitches. People like the Kardashians, who are famous for no discernable reason except for a sex tape and big butts, are now admired. People no longer settle disputes with discussion and agreeing to disagree, they yell and scream or pull out their guns. And we wonder why the presidential election has degenerated in to this? The old saying that you reap what you sow comes to mind.

I don’t know about you but I’m getting sick of being told on Facebook that I’m heartless if I scroll past a picture of a sick or physically deformed child.   Do I feel sad for these children…yes. Do I think typing Amen will help them…I don’t think so. And while we are on Facebook, how about those parents who put up pictures up of their teenagers and say something like, my daughter thinks she is ugly because she is being bullied at school. ‘Like’ this photo to show her she is beautiful. Excuse me but isn’t having to get your self-confidence through facebook part of the problem? How about telling your daughter looks aren’t everything, to try to ignore the bullies, develop your personality and realize that things get much better about one minute after you graduate from high school.

I was reading the newspaper the other day and saw a headline of a new app you can buy called the ‘Time of the Month’ app. Yes, you heard that right. This app actually allows boyfriends to know when it is a woman’s ‘time of the month’ so I guess they can prepare themselves or stay clear of the girl until it’s over. Huh? This reminds me of an interview I did with a guy many years ago who wanted to work at my former company. One of the questions I always asked was about how the person got along with their co-workers. This guy proceeded to tell me about how he got along with everyone except this one woman because “you know how women are at that time of the month.” Perhaps he didn’t notice that I actually was a woman because I was puzzled why he brought this up in our interview. His resume went in the reject pile as soon as he left my office, but just think, if that app had been available back then, maybe this guy and woman would have gotten along better. As a result he might have gotten the job,…..depending, of course on what the time of the month it was for me!

Until next time
