The chilly season is when it becomes essential to use richer, more hydrating products that form a protective barrier on the skin to keep the elements out and to lock moisture in.

By now you may have your holy grail products, (you know those ones you just cannot do without?) but if you aren’t using them correctly then it really doesn’t matter how luxurious or expensive your skin care products are, because they won’t be able to do their job.

In this article we will share 5 of our top moisturizing tips so you can enjoy optimal moisture absorption for skin that stays dewy and radiant all season long!

Always apply your facial oil to damp skin

Unlike moisturizers that contain water, facial oils contain no water and their particles are larger than those found in a water-based moisturizer.

Facial oils are brimming in antioxidants and are super concentrated so of course you want to reap their awesome benefits!

A simple tip to get the most out of your facial oil is to apply to damp skin so the particles are better able to penetrate deep into the pores. So next time you climb out of your tub or shower, reach for your facial oil before your body lotion!

Exfoliate before you moisturize

If you apply a moisturizer to skin that has not been exfoliated in a while, then the product is just going to sit on top of the skin and cling to old, dead skin cells instead of sinking into the pores.

Exfoliation helps to remove old, dead skin to allow for better product absorption and happier, glowing skin!

Use lukewarm water to rinse

Hot water is terrible for your skin, end of story.

Hot water strips the skin of beneficial oils and may impair the skin’s barrier function, which is the last thing you need in the frosty months. An impaired barrier function means that the skin cells cannot hold onto water and can leak out, resulting in dry skin at risk for dehydration and aging.

Always rinse with lukewarm water to help ensure your skin stays perfectly balanced and better able to hold onto the moisture it so desperately needs.

Tap (don’t rub!) your oils into your skin

This is one that many people still don’t know, but by rubbing your oils into your skin, you actually prevent them from penetrating the pores.

The particles in oils are larger and need to be tapped into the skin, using the tips of your fingers to help them sink in and properly absorb.

Don’t ditch the SPF

You may think the SPF is not needed in the gloomy months, but just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean the sun’s harsh rays can’t still do damage.

Always make sure that all exposed areas are nicely covered in a layer of natural SPF to help protect your precious skin all season long.

These tips are super simple, yet highly effective and will ensure your skin stays hydrated and happy this season!
